The Madhya Pradesh Council of Ministers on 11 August approved a sweeping set of decisions worth nearly ₹48,000 crore, spanning road infrastructure, public health, agricultural education, and women's empowerment. The approvals, announced from Bhopal, form part of the state government's broader development agenda for the current fiscal year.

National Soybean Research Institute Gets Land in Sehore

In a special initiative under the state's 'Year of the Farmer' programme, the Cabinet approved the permanent lease of 20 hectares of land in Bhaukhedi village, Ichhawar tehsil, Sehore district, for the National Soybean Research Institute. The land will host a Krishi Vigyan Kendra aimed at strengthening soybean research and directly benefiting farmers across Madhya Pradesh, which is among India's largest soybean-producing states.

Bhopal–Vidisha Highway to Get Four-Lane Upgrade

The Cabinet cleared ₹1,757.55 crore for upgrading the 44.830 km Bhopal–Vidisha road (State Highway-28) from two lanes to four lanes with paved shoulders. The project will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model and passes through landmark locations including the Sanchi Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Tropic of Cancer. Officials said the upgrade is expected to accelerate industrial investment and regional development along the corridor. Separately, toll collection on the Bhopal Bypass — currently being upgraded to six lanes — was extended until 31 December 2031, with provision for a further five-year extension.

Health and Agriculture: Thousands of Crores Sanctioned

On the public health front, the Cabinet sanctioned ₹28,083.47 crore for the National Health Mission and ₹12,123.81 crore for the Ayushman Bharat scheme, reinforcing the state's commitment to accessible healthcare. For agricultural education, ₹795.59 crore was approved to fund the continued operation of Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University over the next five years. The Cabinet also cleared ₹918 crore to extend the Forest Department's dividend-distribution scheme for local labourers and residents through Joint Forest Management Committees up to 2030-31.

Women's Awards Enhanced, Inquiry Commission Extended

In a move for women's empowerment, the prize money for both the Rani Durgavati State-Level Award and the Rani Avanti Bai State-Level Bravery Award was raised to ₹2 lakh each. The Cabinet also extended by three months the tenure of the inquiry commission probing the Dewas firecracker factory accident, and approved the tabling of the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) annual reports in the Legislative Assembly.

What Comes Next

With the bulk of the sanctioned funds directed at health and infrastructure, implementation timelines and tendering processes will be closely watched. The four-lane highway project and the National Soybean Research Institute's Krishi Vigyan Kendra are expected to be among the first to move into execution, given their direct bearing on farmer welfare and regional connectivity.
