Bhopal, Feb 11 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya announced on Tuesday that the state government has mobilized ministers and other public officials to assist the pilgrims stranded due to the overwhelming influx of devotees.
The situation was reviewed during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav revealed that local BJP workers, along with MLAs and district administration officials, have been encouraged to offer help to the stranded pilgrims heading to Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh Mela.
Vijayvargiya mentioned that BJP President J.P. Nadda has urged the party’s state unit chief and the government to ensure that pilgrims attending Maha Kumbh face no hardships, and that those caught in long traffic jams should receive necessary assistance.
Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla has been designated to monitor the situation.
“Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla is overseeing the conditions from the Chakghat border between Satna and Rewa. Local BJP leaders have also stepped in to support the administration,” Vijayvargiya informed the media.
He noted that several pilgrims have resorted to using jungle routes, resulting in some being separated from their families.
“Police teams are actively searching for these individuals. BJP volunteers are assisting the district administration in distributing food, water, medications, and milk to stranded pilgrims along the route from Satna to the Prayagraj border,” stated Vijayvargiya.
He further revealed that medical camps and food stalls have been established along NH-27 (from Satna to the Chakghat border in Rewa district).
“For safety reasons, vehicles are being directed based on the authorities' guidance from Prayagraj, resulting in vehicles being halted at various points,” he said.
The minister reported that areas including Satna, Rewa, Mangawan, Gangeo, Garh, Teonthar, and Chakghat (on NH-27) are experiencing significant traffic congestion due to the large number of pilgrims.
“With thousands of devotees heading to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj stuck on various highways in Madhya Pradesh because of severe traffic jams, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has advised pilgrims to postpone their travels by a few days to alleviate congestion. A surge of vehicles en route to Prayagraj for the ongoing Maha Kumbh has caused extensive traffic jams stretching for several kilometers, crippling roads in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, Seoni, Katni, Maihar, Satna, and Rewa districts.
