Bhopal/Prayag, Jan 29 (NationPress) The entry of vehicles from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh was prohibited on Wednesday following a stampede at the Triveni Sangam during the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya.
Vehicles traveling from Rewa to Prayagraj (NH -27) have been halted at Chakghat, located on the border between Prayagraj and MP's Rewa.
Security personnel have been assigned to ensure order for the individuals stranded on the road and to prevent any unfortunate incidents.
Conversely, vehicles coming from Prayagraj to Rewa are permitted to proceed. Senior administrative officials from Rewa have arrived at Chakghat to assist the police.
In the meantime, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, through a social media post, appealed to the public to adhere to the administration’s directives.
"Police officials and the Rewa district administration have been directed to manage the situation and provide food and accommodation for all the devotees at Chakghat. Additionally, a medical team has been made available on-site for health-related issues. I urge all devotees to collaborate with the administration," CM Yadav stated.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, addressing the incident, mentioned that the local administration in Prayagraj is extending all possible assistance to the victims and expressed wishes for a swift recovery to the injured.
The incident occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., as some devotees climbed over barricades at Akhara Marg, he noted.
"During the period from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m., at the location where arrangements were made for the Amrit Snan of the akharas, some devotees breached the barricades and sustained critical injuries. They were immediately transported to the hospital for prompt treatment," he declared after a high-level meeting in Lucknow.
Officer on Special Duty for the Mela, Akanksha Rana, informed reporters that several individuals were injured and hospitalized after a barrier collapsed at the Sangam.
