What Financial Aid Did MP CM Announce for Families of 7 Killed in Rewa Road Accident?

Bhopal, June 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Mohan Yadav, expressed his deep sorrow regarding the tragic loss of seven lives in Rewa and has pledged Rs 2 lakh as financial assistance to the families of the deceased.

Additionally, he has committed Rs 50,000 to each individual who sustained injuries in the unfortunate incident.

Dr Yadav announced this support via his X account, stating, “A tragic event unfolded near Sohagi village in Rewa district when a truck loaded with cement pillars overturned onto an auto-rickshaw transporting devotees from Nai Garhi in Mauganj district. The group was returning from Prayagraj after partaking in a sacred Ganga bath. This devastating accident claimed seven lives and resulted in injuries to three others. In light of this heartbreaking event, the Madhya Pradesh government has stepped forward to assist the affected families. Authorities have mandated that financial aid be dispensed—Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those who suffered serious injuries.”

The incident transpired when a truck carrying cement poles toppled onto an auto-rickshaw, resulting in seven fatalities and two injuries. The accident occurred around 12:30 PM on Thursday, as confirmed by Udit Mishra, the sub-divisional magistrate of Teonthar, a tehsil in Rewa district.

“The auto-rickshaw, which was carrying passengers returning from Prayagraj, was struck by the truck, which was also en route to Rewa from the same city. Six bodies were taken to Teonthar Hospital, while four injured individuals were transported to Gangev Hospital before being referred to Sanjay Gandhi Medical College in Rewa. Tragically, one of the injured later succumbed to his injuries during treatment, raising the death count to seven,” he informed IANS. Authorities are actively investigating to ascertain the cause of the accident and to identify the victims. The bodies are undergoing post-mortem examinations.

Police reports indicate that the accident took place as the truck attempted to overtake the auto-rickshaw while maneuvering a narrow section of the elevated roadway. A man, a woman, and two children traveling in the auto were killed on the spot. The victims hailed from Nai Garhi in Mauganj district and were returning home after a holy dip in the Ganges.

While the precise number of passengers aboard the auto-rickshaw remains uncertain, initial reports suggest that at least eight individuals were present.

On the previous day, a similar incident occurred in Jhabua district, where a cement mixer truck overturned onto a van, resulting in the immediate deaths of nine individuals.

Sohagi Pahad in Rewa has a notorious history of fatal accidents. In October 2022, a catastrophic crash at the same location led to 15 fatalities and approximately 40 injuries. This incident involved a bus carrying nearly 100 passengers from Hyderabad to Gorakhpur, which collided with a trolley in the early hours of the morning.
