Bhopal, March 10 (NationPress) A devastating collision involving a truck and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals and left 13 others with severe injuries during the early hours of Monday in the City Kotwali area of Sidhi, Madhya Pradesh.

The injured were rushed to the hospital, with nine reported to be in critical condition. Many were subsequently referred to Rewa for advanced medical care. Tragically, a goat also lost its life in this incident.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed his heartfelt condolences over the tragic loss of the eight passengers and declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries.

In a statement on his X handle, the Chief Minister remarked, "It is with great sorrow that I share the news of the untimely demise of eight passengers in a tragic road accident near Upni village in Sidhi district. This collision involved a passenger vehicle en route to visit Maihar Mata and a truck. My deepest sympathies are with the grieving families."

Following the accident, senior officials from the district and police administration quickly arrived at the scene to facilitate the treatment of the injured, aided by local residents. The critically injured were referred to Rewa, as noted by the Chief Minister.

He further stated, "Instructions have been given to disburse Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister's special fund to the families of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries," in a post on X.

According to the police report, the incident took place around 2:30 a.m. near the Opni Petrol Pump on Sidhi-Bahri Road.

The deceased, belonging to the Sahu family from Deori and Pandaria Bahri village, included five women and three men.

The SUV, which was transporting 21 passengers, was heading from Matihani for a Mundan Sanskar (a baby head-shaving ceremony). The injured were initially taken to the nearest hospital, but due to their critical condition, they were later transferred to Rewa Medical College.

Authorities have sent the deceased's bodies for post-mortem examinations. The local administration has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the accident, given its serious nature.
