Bhopal, Oct 28 (NationPress) To reclaim government-owned housing from unauthorized occupants, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet has implemented a strict penalty regime.
State Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya announced on Tuesday that the new regulations now permit fines up to thirty times the normal rent for unauthorized occupancy.
The cabinet has revised the Government Housing Allotment Rules, 2000, which apply to retired government employees illegally occupying accommodations in Bhopal.
According to the new provisions, retired government workers may keep their allotted housing at standard rent for the first three months after retirement.
For the next three months, they will be charged ten times the usual rent. After this period, punitive rent will be enforced, and eviction proceedings will commence.
Minister Vijayvargiya noted that Rule 37, which pertains to eligibility and license fee rates based on pay scale, has been updated.
The penalty for unauthorized occupancy has been escalated from ten times to thirty times the standard rate, with a 10 percent increase each month.
Previously, government employees could retain their housing for up to three months following resignation or any situation that made them ineligible. After this grace period, penal rent would be applied, leading to eviction.
Under the new regulations, employees transferred outside Bhopal can keep their residence at the regular rate for six months. Similarly, retirees are allowed to stay for six months at standard rent.
Separately, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav addressed the Council of Ministers at the Secretariat on Tuesday, announcing various events to celebrate Madhya Pradesh’s foundation day on November 1.
