Bhopal, March 15 (NationPress) In a deeply troubling incident, a six-month-old infant suffered severe burns in what officials are labeling a barbaric act of 'exorcism'.

The ritual, performed by a self-styled sorcerer named Raghuveer Yadav, caused serious injuries to the child, notably to his eyes.

As reported by police, this tragic event unfolded on Thursday, when the child's mother, desperate to alleviate her son's ailment, sought assistance from the sorcerer.

Under the pretense of conducting a healing ritual, Raghuveer subjected the infant to horrific abuse - hanging him upside down over an open flame. The fire scorched the child's delicate face, while the smoke inflicted severe harm to his corneas.

The mother, in shock at the outcome, hurried her son to the Shivpuri District Hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit.

Girish Chaturvedi, the ophthalmologist treating the child, informed IANS that the infant's condition was dire.

"The corneas, especially in the right eye, have sustained irreversible damage due to the fire and smoke. It remains uncertain whether his vision can be salvaged. Upon arrival, the child was critically dehydrated, necessitating immediate medical intervention to stabilize him," Chaturvedi elaborated.

However, on Saturday morning, the parents opted to discharge the child from the hospital, stating intentions to pursue better treatment in Gwalior.

Further complicating the investigation, the parents allegedly attempted to protect the sorcerer, asserting that the burns were a result of an accidental fire during tea preparation.

Despite their efforts to conceal the truth, Superintendent of Police Aman Singh Rathore confirmed that a case has been filed.

The village Kotwar, Janved Parihar, has been named as the complainant in this matter.

Chaturvedi, profoundly affected by the child's situation, took to social media to call for stringent action against the offender. His post has attracted significant attention, amplifying public outrage and demands for justice for the innocent victim.
