Madhya Pradesh Cyber Police Uncover Human Trafficking Scheme, Two Arrested
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, March 21 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh Cyber Police have apprehended two individuals linked to a human trafficking scheme that deceived young people with enticing job offers abroad, as reported by officials on Saturday.
The initial inquiry indicated that the perpetrators contacted youths via social media, inviting them for supposed job interviews.
One of the suspects was captured in Bihar, while the other was taken into custody in Uttar Pradesh. Acting as agents, they were significantly involved in enticing young individuals from Madhya Pradesh, falsely assuring them of lucrative overseas employment through a fraudulent interview process.
“Young adults were scammed through advertisements touting high-paying jobs abroad. The culprits would entice these individuals to Thailand and subsequently to Myanmar, where they were sold to cybercriminals in exchange for foreign currency. The victims were forcibly held and made to participate in scam operations,” stated Pranay Nagvanshi, Bhopal’s Cybercrime Superintendent of Police, in a conversation with IANS on Saturday.
The officer further revealed that with the arrest of these two agents, the cyber police of the state have unveiled an international network that misled young people with employment promises abroad, only to ensnare them and transport them to locations for cyber fraud activities.
This investigation was sparked by a case involving a young man from Bhopal, who was lured with a data entry job offer and sent to Thailand nearly three months ago. From Thailand, the victim was trafficked into Myanmar, where he was sold to a gang engaged in cyber fraud.
“During this ordeal, he was subjected to physical mistreatment and coerced into participating in fraudulent schemes. He was later rescued by the Myanmar military,” he added.
Nagvanshi noted that during the questioning, the arrested individuals disclosed that extensive cyber scam operations are active along the borders of Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, where youths from various nations, including India, are held captive and forced to work.
The suspects have been charged under multiple relevant sections pertaining to human trafficking and the IT Act. Authorities recovered mobile devices, tablets, and several essential documents from their possession, and further investigations are ongoing.
