Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, Feb 24 (NationPress) - In a significant police operation, three individuals, including two sisters, were apprehended in Bhopal on allegations of orchestrating a sex racket and coercing religious conversion under the pretense of offering employment to at-risk young women, authorities reported on Tuesday.
The suspects have been named as Amreen and Afreen, who are siblings, along with their accomplice, Chandan Yadav.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by two women at the Bag Sevania Police Station late Sunday night. Subsequently, police conducted a search and detained the trio in Bhopal on Monday.
Bhopal Police Commissioner, Sanjay Kumar, confirmed the arrests to IANS, stating that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being made to apprehend four additional suspects.
"Currently, three individuals are in custody, and the remaining suspects will be taken into custody shortly. The investigation is still active," Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar remarked.
According to police reports, Amreen and Afreen allegedly targeted women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, luring them with offers of domestic jobs promising a monthly salary of Rs 10,000, along with free housing, meals, and what was portrayed as a lavish lifestyle.
The FIR reviewed by IANS indicated that the victims were reportedly forced to consume alcohol and MD drugs. In several cases, they claimed to have been incapacitated and sexually assaulted.
One of the complainants, a beautician from Chhattisgarh, alleged that she was taken to Ahmedabad in December 2025 under the guise of employment. She accused Yasir, a relative of Amreen, of raping her in Ahmedabad, and also claimed she was repeatedly assaulted by two other accused, Bilal and Chanu.
The second complainant, a Bhopal local who previously worked as a maid for Amreen, reported that Chandan Yadav sexually assaulted her at his sister's home in Narayan Nagar after she was left alone there by Amreen. She stated that she was threatened with severe consequences if she disclosed the incident.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered several suspicious WhatsApp groups and photographs of women on the mobile phones of the arrested individuals.
Investigators suspect a broader network operating across state borders, as victims have stated they were transported to Gujarat and Mumbai and introduced to strangers under various false pretenses.
Police are currently examining the financial activities of the suspects, their travel history, and digital communications to ascertain whether this incident was merely a singular criminal act or part of a larger interstate operation.
