MP to launch single annual crop loan for farmers, says CM Mohan Yadav
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday, 9 July announced that the state government will introduce a single annual crop loan to replace the existing system of separate loans for Kharif and Rabi seasons, making agricultural credit more accessible for farmers across the state. The announcement was made at the 'Kisan Samriddhi Sankalp Sammelan' held at Kalapipal in Shajapur district.
What the Single Crop Loan Means for Farmers
Under the current system, farmers must separately apply for and manage loans for each crop season — a process critics say is administratively burdensome and delays credit access. The proposed single annual crop loan would consolidate this into one facility, reducing paperwork and improving financial planning for cultivators.
'Farmers will no longer have to take separate loans for Kharif and Rabi crops. A single crop loan for the entire year will be made available. Our government is continuously working to reduce farming costs, increase production and ensure farmers get remunerative prices for their produce,' Chief Minister Yadav said at the event.
Agriculture as the State's Top Priority
The Chief Minister reiterated that agriculture and farmer welfare remain the Madhya Pradesh government's foremost priority. He highlighted that the state's irrigated area has expanded to more than 55 lakh hectares, contributing to higher agricultural output. He also announced incentives to promote natural farming and special assistance for cattle rearers to boost milk production.
Key Irrigation Projects and Narmada Water Commitment
Chief Minister Yadav underlined progress on major river-linking initiatives, including the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal (PKC) project, which is expected to further expand irrigation coverage. He committed to supplying Narmada water to every village in Shajapur district, and said the government is working in a phased manner to provide daytime electricity for irrigation so that farmers are not compelled to visit their fields at night.
'Our Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is committed to bringing Narmada water to every village in Shajapur district. We are also working in a phased manner to provide electricity for irrigation during the daytime so that farmers do not have to visit their fields at night,' he said.
Development Projects Inaugurated
During the Sammelan, Chief Minister Yadav laid the foundation stone and inaugurated 12 development projects worth ₹30.86 crore in the region. These comprised the foundation laying for four projects valued at ₹1.45 crore and the inauguration of eight completed projects worth ₹29.39 crore. The works span school buildings, bridges, panchayat buildings, a primary health centre, anganwadi centres, and other civic infrastructure.
This comes amid a broader push by the Madhya Pradesh government to strengthen rural infrastructure and reduce the financial stress on the farming community ahead of the upcoming Kharif season. The single loan policy, once formalised, is expected to benefit a significant share of the state's agricultural households.
