Bhopal, Oct 28 (NationPress) The BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government has given the green light to a proposal aimed at supplying complimentary electricity connections to households from the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) throughout the state under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) initiative.
This significant decision was made during a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the Secretariat in Bhopal on Tuesday.
After the meeting, Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya informed the media that power connections will be extended to all recognized PVTG households under the Centrally-sponsored PM JANMAN scheme.
“The Central government will cover 60% of the total expenses, while the state government will fund the remaining 40% to guarantee electricity access for all PVTG households in Madhya Pradesh,” stated Vijayvargiya.
He revealed that there are 18,833 PVTG households residing in 24 districts without electricity connections. “Many of these families live in extremely remote locations, where one or two houses are situated far from the main settlements. The government plans to install solar power systems in such isolated homes,” the Minister explained.
Vijayvargiya further emphasized that even though the government has already connected most tribal families to the grid, these 18,833 households were overlooked due to their geographical seclusion. “Those situated in highly remote and dispersed areas will receive solar panels at no cost, ensuring that no PVTG household is left without power,” he added.
The Minister reiterated that this initiative represents the government’s dedication to inclusive development and the empowerment of tribal communities, aligned with the welfare vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’.
It's worth mentioning that in October of the previous year, the state government had identified 5,481 villages with significant PVTG populations, extending essential civic amenities to them under the PM JANMAN scheme.
This scheme, launched by the Central government, aims at the comprehensive development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups by enhancing their access to education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities, housing, and vital infrastructure such as electricity and drinking water.
