Rakhigarhi (Haryana), Dec 26 (NationPress) - Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Friday that the Central government has set aside Rs 500 crore in the Union Budget to enhance Rakhigarhi, an ancient Harappan site, as part of ongoing efforts to achieve inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Highlighting the historical, cultural, and tourism importance of Rakhigarhi, the Chief Minister noted that the state government is actively pursuing initiatives to establish its significant presence on the national and international tourism landscape.
Speaking at the second annual Rakhigarhi Mahotsav in Hisar district, he mentioned that all 13 requests from the Rakhigarhi Panchayat would be submitted to the relevant departments for timely resolution. Similarly, the five requests from the Rakhi Shahpur Panchayat would also be addressed.
The Chief Minister allocated a grant of Rs. 21 lakh each for the villages of Rakhigarhi and Rakhi Shahpur and inaugurated the Harappan Knowledge Centre. CM Saini emphasized that Rakhigarhi represents a unique identity as a site of historical heritage.
“This land has been home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, the Harappan civilization, for thousands of years. Artifacts discovered during excavations confirm that Rakhigarhi was a significant industrial and commercial center, boasting a meticulously planned urban layout, advanced sanitation systems, and exceptional water management,” he stated.
The Chief Minister noted that this vital center of the Indus-Saraswati civilization exemplifies the depth, scientific innovation, and prosperity of India’s heritage, which is a source of great pride for the residents of Haryana.
The government is dedicated to transforming Rakhigarhi into a global tourism and research hub, with plans for a world-class archaeological museum, a dedicated research institution, modern tourist amenities, and robust infrastructure. The aim is to provide visitors, both domestic and international, with a profound understanding of India’s ancient civilization and a rich experience of Haryana’s cultural heritage.
This initiative is also expected to create new employment opportunities for local youth and significantly enhance the regional economy.
