Patna, March 15 (NationPress) Four individuals were taken into custody on Saturday concerning the murder of Munger ASI Santosh Kumar Singh.

During the brief pursuit to apprehend the suspects, four police officers, including station chief Chandan Kumar, inspector Shriram Kumar, constable Saif Ali, and another officer, sustained injuries.

Munger SP Syed Imran Masood confirmed that law enforcement acted promptly and successfully captured four criminals.

While transporting one of the arrested suspects, Guddu Yadav, to Bakarpur village under Mufassil Police Station to apprehend additional suspects, the police vehicle overturned while attempting to avoid colliding with a goat. Seizing the moment, Guddu Yadav snatched a rifle from Jawan Saif Ali and attempted to fire at the police team to flee.

The police issued a warning and initiated return fire in self-defence.

"Guddu Yadav suffered a bullet wound to his right leg during his escape attempt. Four police officers were injured in the pursuit. Raids are in progress to locate other evading criminals," Masood stated.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Singh, who sustained severe injuries during a confrontation with locals in Munger, passed away on Saturday morning.

The incident transpired in Nandlalpur village under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station on Friday night when a team from DIAL 112 was alerted about Ranveer Kumar causing a disturbance while intoxicated in the village.

As a result, a DIAL 112 team, led by ASI Singh, was deployed to address the situation. Upon arrival and attempting to intervene, Ranveer, Guddu, and his relatives attacked the police team with sharp weapons, inflicting serious head injuries on Santosh.

Subsequently, ASI Singh, hailing from Mohania block, Kaimur, succumbed to his injuries.

Masood mentioned that the post-mortem for Santosh has been completed, and the body will be dispatched to Kaimur from Munger shortly.

The Munger range DIG, District Magistrate, and Superintendent of Police paid their respects to ASI Singh.

He also received a guard of honour at the police line.

Earlier, on March 12, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was killed during a violent clash in Bihar’s Araria district. The deceased was identified as Rajiv Ranjan Mall, an ASI stationed at Fulkaha police station in Araria.
