Gaya, March 27 (NationPress) An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Bihar Police, Neeraj Kumar, has reportedly taken his own life by using his service revolver at the police lines in Bihar’s Gaya district on Thursday morning, as confirmed by officials.

Kumar hailed from Shringarpur village located under the Suryagarha police station in Lakhisarai district, and had been assigned to the Mufassil police station in Gaya for the last 18 months. He lived in the police lines and had just returned to duty on Tuesday after a leave of 39 days. Upon his return, he approached the Mufassil police station’s SHO to discuss his duty allocation.

According to Vishwajit Singh, Executive President of the Bihar Police Men’s Association, Kumar was under significant stress from both personal and departmental issues.

“On Wednesday night, police personnel were watching an IPL match. After the match concluded, everyone retired for the night. On Thursday morning, they discovered Kumar lifeless on the lawn, surrounded by a pool of blood. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his temple, with his service revolver nearby,” Singh reported.

The situation was promptly communicated to senior officials. SSP Anand Kumar arrived at the scene and launched a thorough investigation.

DSP Dharmendra Bharti confirmed that a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was dispatched to gather evidence from the area.

“We have also notified Kumar’s family members, as their statements might shed light on any personal challenges he faced,” Bharti added.

Sources indicate that Kumar had been experiencing chronic arm pain due to volleyball practice, which had reportedly intensified over time.

“The pain was exacerbating his stress, potentially contributing to the tragedy,” said a source familiar with the circumstances.

The police are awaiting the FSL report and family accounts to clarify the events leading to his death.

“Kumar’s remains have been sent for a post-mortem, which will take place with the presence of his family members,” Bharti stated.
