Patna, March 15 (NationPress) Just days after an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was killed in a violent encounter in Bihar's Araria district, another police officer, Santosh Kumar Singh, tragically lost his life on Saturday due to severe injuries sustained during a confrontation with villagers in Munger district late Friday night.

Syed Imran Masood, the Superintendent of Police for Munger, informed IANS that the wounded ASI succumbed to his head injuries in Patna at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday.

The violent event took place in Nandlalpur village, under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station.

The victim has been identified as ASI Santosh Kumar Singh, a resident of Mohania block in Kaimur, who had been assigned to the Mufassil police station for one year.

“We were alerted about a person named Ranveer Kumar causing a disturbance while intoxicated in Nandlalpur village. Consequently, a DAIL 112 team, led by ASI Santosh Kumar Singh, was dispatched to manage the situation. Upon arrival, when he attempted to intervene, Ranveer and his relatives attacked the police unit with sharp weapons, resulting in serious skull injuries for Santosh,” stated Abhishek Anand, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Sadar Range.

Officers present at the scene managed to rescue ASI Singh and transported him to a private hospital. Given his critical state, doctors referred him to Patna for advanced medical care.

Following the incident, Ranveer Kumar's relatives fled the area. However, the district police have arrested five suspects to date and are continuing their search for the remaining assailants.

A murder case has been filed against Ranveer and his family members at Mufassil police station, and investigations are ongoing.

The law and order situation in Bihar, governed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, appears to be deteriorating, as just on March 12, another Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was killed during a violent clash in Araria district.

The deceased was identified as Rajiv Ranjan Mall, an ASI stationed at Fulkaha police station in Araria. ASI Mall, who had served at Fulkaha for the past two years, was part of a team that went to apprehend an accused named Anmol Yadav.

The police team encountered fierce opposition from villagers, leading to a physical altercation. During this clash, ASI Mall fell and sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to Araria Sadar Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Political parties opposing the NDA government are likely to intensify their criticism of CM Nitish Kumar over this recent attack on police forces.
