Key Takeaways
Jalandhar, Feb 7 (NationPress) The police have escalated their investigation regarding the homicide of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Satwinderpal Singh, known as Lucky Oberoi, in Jalandhar. Investigators are now questioning the relatives of the main suspect, Joga Pholriwal, as per sources.
Authorities are exploring various angles relating to the murder, which occurred on Friday.
A postmortem was performed approximately 12 hours after Oberoi's death at the Civil Hospital by a three-member medical team. During this examination, the doctors retrieved five bullets from the deceased's body.
According to medical officials, one bullet was taken from the right side of the neck, two from the right abdomen, and two from the chest area.
Once the postmortem was concluded, police transported Oberoi's body to a freezing facility at the Kishanpura crematorium.
Officials indicated that the postmortem lasted over two hours due to the complicated nature of the injuries.
The medical panel observed that several bullets had penetrated deeply, complicating their extraction.
Doctors confirmed that while five bullets were successfully removed, other projectiles remain lodged in the body.
The team also noted that some bullets might have grazed the body without full penetration.
On Friday, the Director General of Police mentioned a significant lead had emerged in the investigation. Meanwhile, Oberoi's housekeeper has gone missing, with his mobile phone turned off, raising additional concerns.
As part of the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from various city entry points.
The footage reportedly captured the suspected shooter along with a man believed to be the servant, who was seen riding an Activa scooter and later in a Creta car near Lumma Pind Chowk.
Police traced the vehicle's registration and found it belonged to a dealer named Kalra, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail for a car theft case. Upon questioning, Kalra informed police he sold the vehicle to a man identified as Arora.
Police then contacted Arora, who claimed to have bought the car via a bank loan.
However, he informed investigators that he had mortgaged the vehicle to Lucky Oberoi for Rs 2.40 lakh for one month due to financial needs.
Statements from Oberoi's staff indicated his servant had taken the Creta car, with the servant stating he would personally drive it.
Since the murder, the servant has been unaccounted for, and his phone remains off. Investigations revealed that the missing servant had been with Oberoi for about two years.
Authorities are also checking the potential involvement of a suspect linked to a prior murder case in Rama Mandi, who has been evading arrest for some time.
Police sources indicated this suspect has recently changed his appearance and has connections to several gang-related incidents in the area.
Officials have not disclosed the suspect's identity but confirmed he has altered his appearance by growing his hair and beard.
Meanwhile, police have detained and interrogated three to four relatives of the accused, Joga Foldiwal, as part of their inquiry.
Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur stated that initial findings indicated two suspects, both clad in black hoodies, fled the scene on an Activa scooter. She assured that further investigations are underway.
Police have registered FIR No. 25 against Jograj Singh, also known as Joga, along with two unidentified individuals.
The case has been filed under Sections 103(1), 3(5), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
Authorities confirmed that multiple teams are working diligently to locate the suspects and gather further evidence related to the murder.
