Patna, June 18 (NationPress) In a distressing episode that has instilled fear in Bihar's Lakhisarai district, two local public figures -- Chandan Kumar Singh, the Mukhiya of Olipur village, and Chandan Kumar, a PACS member -- were fatally shot in the early hours of Wednesday, as reported by officials.
The tragic event occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the village of Olipur Ramchandrapur, falling under the Pipariya police station's jurisdiction.
According to law enforcement, the duo was heading home from a Shraddh ceremony when unidentified assailants opened fire on them near Hanuman Gali.
Witnesses recounted hearing several gunshots. By the time the locals arrived, the assailants had already escaped.
Both individuals were rushed to Lakhisarai Sadar Hospital by family and community members, but medical staff pronounced them dead upon arrival. Initial investigations indicated that both had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
“A social worker had passed away 10 days prior, leading to a Brahmin feast organized on the previous night. Both Chandan Kumar Singh and Chandan Kumar had participated in it before they were attacked,” stated Lakhisarai SP Ajay Kumar.
Senior police personnel, including the SDPO, arrived at the hospital soon after the incident, meeting with the victims’ families and initiating a preliminary investigation.
“We are examining all possibilities. The Pipariya police station has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation. The perpetrators will face the law -- once identified, they will be dealt with severely,” SP Ajay Kumar affirmed.
At this point, law enforcement has not identified the attackers or uncovered the motive for the killings.
The murders have incited a surge of anxiety and conjecture within the community.
In response, security measures have been intensified, with police reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing locals to locate the suspects. Further inquiries are currently ongoing.
