Patna, July 8 (NationPress) The Bihar Police announced on Tuesday that they have successfully resolved the murder investigation of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka. The investigation revealed that a property dispute was the main motive behind the vicious attack that occurred outside his residence.
Authorities have taken into custody two principal suspects in the case: the shooter, Umesh Yadav, and the alleged mastermind, Ashok Sahu. Earlier today, Vikas, an associate of Umesh, was shot dead in an encounter with Bihar Police in the Malsalami locality.
The disclosures were made by Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar during a press briefing. Speaking to reporters in Patna this evening, he indicated that a specialized investigative team, supported by the STF, conducted a comprehensive investigation to reveal the conspiracy behind Khemka's assassination.
The police chief confirmed that Khemka's death was a planned contract killing, with Umesh Yadav being offered Rs 4 lakh for the execution of the crime.
“He received an upfront payment of Rs 50,000, with the balance disbursed by Ashok Sahu the day following the incident,” he elaborated.
During interrogations, authorities recovered significant evidence, including 56 rounds of live ammunition, a 9 mm pistol, two magazines, and 14 bullets from a room on the upper floor of the premises.
The DGP also mentioned that the firearm used in Khemka's murder has been retrieved, along with the motorcycle utilized in the crime, which was registered to Umesh Yadav. A search of his residence yielded several incriminating items, including a helmet and mask intended to conceal the attacker's identity,” he added.
Ashok Sahu and Umesh had a longstanding acquaintance, having first met at a wedding about 1.5 years ago.
As per Bihar Police, Gopal Khemka had previously clashed with Ashok Sahu, another businessman, who had threatened him during a prior altercation.
DGP Vinay Kumar stated that Sahu had previously plotted to eliminate Khemka and had engaged a shooter, but that plan was unsuccessful.
Upon interrogation, conspirator Ashok Sahu admitted to his role in the crime, revealing that the motivation stemmed from a property feud and a disagreement over the Bankipur club.
Gopal Khemka, the proprietor of Magadh Hospital, one of the state's oldest private healthcare facilities, was fatally shot on July 4 as he exited his vehicle near an apartment adjacent to his residence, Panache Hotel, in the affluent Gandhi Maidan area.
