Patna, July 5 (NationPress) In light of the shocking murder of Gopal Khemka, a notable businessman and BJP leader, the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar announced on Saturday that those responsible will be apprehended swiftly and held accountable. He informed reporters that both the Patna Police and the Special Task Force (STF) are actively involved, and an arrest in this heinous crime is anticipated shortly.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, DGP Vinay Kumar expressed, "This is an extremely tragic event. A dedicated police team along with the STF is fully engaged in the investigation, and we believe the case will be resolved quickly with an arrest made soon."
Khemka, a respected industrialist and prominent figure in Patna's business community, was fatally shot late Friday night near Ramgulam Chowk in the Gandhi Maidan police jurisdiction. An unidentified assailant on a motorcycle shot him at close range as he exited his vehicle near his home. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Khemka owned Magadh Hospital and several petrol stations, and he also held a directorial position at the Bankipore Club. His untimely death has caused significant alarm in both Bihar's political and business sectors.
DGP Vinay Kumar stated that they are reviewing CCTV footage and investigating all potential motives, including business rivalry and personal disputes.
“A suspect was seen in the footage fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. We are meticulously analyzing all available CCTV recordings in the area to track the suspect's movements and gather further evidence,” he noted.
He added, “We are thoroughly investigating the motives behind this murder. The police are examining every possible angle—whether there was any prior threat to Khemka or any existing disputes. There were no recent complaints or threat alerts filed, which might explain why he had no bodyguard at the time of the incident.”
The DGP revealed that Khemka had voluntarily relinquished his security last year.
“He had been under a paid security arrangement for many years. This arrangement was temporarily suspended during the elections. While there were discussions about reassigning a guard, that did not materialize. He has not had an official bodyguard for the past year.”
Following his murder, two personal bodyguards have now been assigned to Khemka's son for added protection.
“Due to the sensitive nature of the situation and to ensure the family's safety, we have deployed two guards immediately,” the DGP stated.
He also reflected on the tragic history of the Khemka family, recalling the murder of Gopal Khemka's son back in 2018 in Hajipur.
“A case was registered back then, and a chargesheet was submitted against four individuals within a year. With this second incident, we are now even more committed to delivering justice swiftly.”
Although no arrests have been made yet, senior police officials emphasized that the investigation is progressing well, with multiple leads being pursued. The DGP reiterated that they are gathering input from family members, associates, and other relevant sources to uncover any overlooked threats.
“The exact motives behind this crime are still being carefully considered. We remain hopeful that this case will be resolved swiftly and that justice will be served,” Vinay Kumar concluded.
