New Delhi, March 8 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu underscored the essential role of women in shaping the future of the nation during a National Conference on ‘Nari Shakti Se Viksit Bharat’ in New Delhi on Saturday (March 8). This event was organised by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in celebration of International Women’s Day.

While addressing the audience, President Murmu stated, “A developed Bharat can only be achieved when women can engage in the workforce without any biases or obstacles. The notion that women will always choose family over career needs to be challenged, as nurturing future generations is a collective societal duty. Genuine advancement lies in fostering an atmosphere where every girl can chase her aspirations free from fear or limitations. Empowering women transcends fairness; it is vital for constructing a stronger, more progressive nation.”

Additionally, the President conveyed her best wishes to fellow citizens on International Women's Day, highlighting that this day serves as a moment to celebrate women's achievements, increase awareness of their rights, and commit ourselves to advancing gender equality.

“Today marks the 50th anniversary of International Women's Day. It is undeniable that the women’s community has made significant strides during this time,” she remarked.

Reflecting on her own journey, she noted that her ascent from simple beginnings in a rural area of Odisha to reaching Rashtrapati Bhavan epitomizes the quest for equal opportunities and social justice for women in India. She remained optimistic that instances of women's success will continue to proliferate.

The President asserted that a supportive environment for girls is crucial for realizing the vision of a developed India. “They should have the freedom to make independent life decisions without pressure or fear. We must strive to create a society where no daughter or sister feels unsafe being alone anywhere. A culture of respect for women is essential in fostering a fear-free social atmosphere. The confidence girls gain from such an environment will elevate our nation to new heights,” she added.

“Whenever we have recognized women's talents, they have never let us down. We must remember the invaluable contributions of remarkable figures like Sarojini Naidu, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Sucheta Kriplani, and Hansaben Mehta, who were integral members of the Constituent Assembly. Numerous examples exist where women have achieved the highest accolades through their intelligence, wisdom, and knowledge, enhancing the prestige of both the country and society. In every domain—be it science, sports, politics, or social service—women have instilled respect for their talents,” the President concluded.
