Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, April 7 (NationPress) In the midst of a significant shortage of LPG in Muzaffarpur district, law enforcement has dismantled a sophisticated group engaged in unlawful gas refilling and black market activities, revealing a perilous and well-organized operation.
Following a credible tip-off, a raid was executed in the Nariyar locality under the jurisdiction of the Motipur police station late Monday night, where an unauthorized LPG refilling scheme was in progress.
The operation was spearheaded by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Suchitra Kumari, with the assistance of police units from Kanti and Motipur stations.
During the unexpected night raid, the suspects escaped; however, police confiscated a substantial amount of equipment utilized in the illegal operation.
Among the confiscated items were a fully-loaded LPG tanker registered in Nepal, a Bolero pickup truck stocked with cylinders, an e-rickshaw designated for distribution, and various gas-refilling tools.
A considerable number of both filled and empty LPG cylinders were also seized.
“A raid was executed in the Motipur police station area based on intelligence regarding illegal gas refilling at night. We recovered a filled LPG tanker, an e-rickshaw, a Bolero, a pickup vehicle, and numerous gas cylinders. An FIR has been filed, and further actions are pending,” stated DSP Suchitra Kumari.
Initial inquiries suggest that the group was taking advantage of the prevailing gas shortage by illicitly transferring LPG from tankers into smaller cylinders in isolated regions.
Authorities have indicated that such activities are exceedingly dangerous, as the gas was being managed without adhering to safety protocols, posing a substantial threat to public safety.
Police suspect that the operation may have cross-border connections with Nepal, given the Nepalese registration of the confiscated tanker.
A comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the entire scope of this network and identify all participants.
Law enforcement is optimistic that the fleeing suspects will be apprehended shortly.
In the wake of this crackdown, anxiety has spread among illegal gas vendors in Nariyar and surrounding areas, many of whom have reportedly sought refuge.
Meanwhile, police vigilance has been heightened throughout the region.
Local residents have welcomed the enforcement action, as the LPG shortage had been causing significant distress for consumers.
Officials reiterated that illegal gas refilling is not only unlawful but also poses a serious danger to human life.
