New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) In a significant operation targeting the unlawful storage, transportation, and suspected black marketing of LPG cylinders, authorities in north Delhi seized a substantial number of illegally held gas cylinders and apprehended one individual, as reported by police on Friday.
The initiative, executed by the personnel of Bawana police station in the Outer North District, was conducted under the guidance of Joint Commissioner of Police, Northern Range, Vijay Singh, and the oversight of DCP, Outer North District, Hareshwar Swami. Police teams were specifically instructed to enforce strict measures against unauthorized LPG storage and distribution to uphold public safety and order.
On Thursday, a specialized police unit developed precise intelligence concerning the illegal storage and transportation of LPG cylinders in the Bawana region. In response, the information was conveyed to senior officials, leading to the formation of a team consisting of HC Jitender and HC Pankaj under the supervision of SHO, Bawana, Gaurav Singh, and ACP, Bawana, Joginder Singh.
Following the tip-off, the team established a checkpoint near District Park, Sector-2, DSIIDC, Bawana. At approximately 4 p.m., a pickup vehicle with registration number DL1LAM2817 was identified by an informer as being involved in the illegal transport of LPG cylinders. The vehicle was promptly halted and inspected.
The driver, named Anil, son of the late Virender Kalita, a resident of Auchandi village, was unable to present valid documentation for the cylinders. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered 27 LPG cylinders, comprising both domestic and commercial types, some of which were filled.
Further questioning revealed that additional cylinders were concealed in nearby locations, including two rooms and a structure adjacent to Factory No. 215-216, G Block, Sector-2, DSIIDC, Bawana. A subsequent search operation uncovered 48 more cylinders at these sites.
In total, 75 LPG cylinders from various brands were confiscated, including both empty and filled domestic and commercial units. All were stored without legal authorization or safety measures, representing a significant risk due to the highly flammable nature of LPG.
A case has been filed at PS Bawana under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The accused has been detained, and the vehicle utilized for transportation has been confiscated.
Ongoing investigations aim to identify the supply sources, intended buyers, illegal distribution networks, potential involvement of gas agency employees or other associates, and profits derived from black market operations.
