Chandranath Rath killing: Mother says son died for role in Mamata's Bhabanipur defeat
The mother of slain Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Chandranath Rath, who served as personal assistant to senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, on Thursday claimed her son was killed because of his pivotal role in helping Adhikari defeat outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in South Kolkata during the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections. Rath was shot dead at Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday night.
What His Mother Alleged
Hasi Rani Rath told media persons on Thursday afternoon that her son had been in charge of campaign operations for both Bhabanipur and Nandigram — the two high-profile constituencies where Adhikari contested and won. She squarely linked his killing to Mamata Banerjee's defeat in Bhabanipur, calling it an act of political vendetta.
