New Delhi, Nov 8 (NationPress) Emphasizing that every tale of bravery deserves recognition, MyGov India, the citizen engagement initiative of the Union Government, revealed the launch of Project Veer Gatha 5.0 on Saturday. This initiative is designed to cultivate patriotism among students by sharing the stories of India's gallantry award recipients.
Launched in 2021 under the Gallantry Awards Portal (GAP), this project is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the Ministry of Education (MoE), and MyGov.
The initiative offers a platform for school students across India to express creatively the heroic narratives of soldiers and warriors through various forms such as poems, essays, paintings, and multimedia projects.
Over the years, Veer Gatha has experienced remarkable participation - soaring from 800,000 students in its inaugural edition to a staggering 17.6 million in Veer Gatha 4.0 (2024–25). Both the Defence and Education Ministries have praised it as a transformative effort in fostering civic consciousness among the youth.
“Veer Gatha has achieved extraordinary success, with 800,000 participants in Veer Gatha 1.0 conducted in 2021-22, 1.95 million in Veer Gatha 2.0 conducted in 2022-23, 13.7 million in Veer Gatha 3.0 conducted in 2023-24, and 17.6 million in Veer Gatha 4.0 conducted in 2024-25,” they stated.
During the felicitation ceremony for Veer Gatha 4.0 on January 25, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the valor of historical icons such as Prithviraj Chauhan, King Kharavela of Kalinga, and the Cholas, advocating for the inclusion of pre-independence warriors in the new edition.
For 'Veer Gatha 5.0', he suggested incorporating technological aspects like videography, anchoring, and reporting under the theme 'Samarik Parampara' (military traditions).
This initiative will also create a dedicated 'Veer Gatha Corner' in every school to highlight student creativity.
A total of 100 national winners, termed the 'Super 100', will be honored jointly by the MoE and MoD, with each recipient awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Local honors will be given to state and district-level winners.
With each new edition, Project Veer Gatha continues to strengthen its mission – linking India's youth to tales of courage, sacrifice, and service, ensuring that the legacy of the nation’s heroes is perpetuated through the voices of its students.
