Kolkata, Sep 28 (NationPress) A woman was discovered deceased under mysterious circumstances in Kolkata on Sunday. The individual has been identified as Namita Pal.

Local residents reported that she was cleaning the area behind the fridge in her bedroom located on the first floor of a house when she collapsed.

However, a peculiar black mark on her hand has raised eyebrows among her neighbors. They suspect that there may have been foul play, particularly since she resided alone in her apartment.

Officials from the Jadavpur Police Station were notified and have initiated an investigation into the situation.

This incident has cast a shadow over the neighborhood during the Durga Puja festivities.

Reports indicate that Namita was a long-time inhabitant of the Chittaranjan Colony area in Baghajatin, within the jurisdiction of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) ward number 102. She lived independently on the ground floor of her residence.

Sources reveal that she was using a wet cloth to clean the floor behind the refrigerator when she suddenly emitted a shriek. Neighbors rushed to her aid only to find her on the floor, initially writhing in pain before becoming motionless. She was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Officers from the Jadavpur Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered her body, which displayed a conspicuous black mark on her hand.

"The body has been sent for an autopsy. At first glance, it seems she may have succumbed to electrocution. However, the presence of the black mark necessitates an investigation into whether this was an accident or if foul play was involved. The definitive cause of death will be established once we receive the autopsy results," stated a senior officer from the Jadavpur police station.

It is reported that Namita was quite sociable, having interacted with her neighbors earlier that day. The news of her sudden demise has left the community in shock.
