Mumbai, March 11 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has instructed the administration to ensure the timely completion of the new Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur by the year 2028.

He stressed the importance of taking prompt measures to finalize the main complex, which will accommodate the Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, and a Central Hall, along with separate administrative buildings within the designated timeline.

This directive was given during a session of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee at the Legislature.

The committee explored matters such as land acquisition, necessary approvals, and funding for various high-impact initiatives, including the new Vidhan Bhavan complex and administrative building in Nagpur, the Neral-Shirur Highway as an alternative route to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and connectivity nodes linking the Alibaug-Virar Highway (Atal Setu), Mumbai-Goa Highway, and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The new Vidhan Bhavan, set to replace the existing structure established in 1920, is being designed to align with contemporary legislative and administrative needs. The complex will feature Blocks A, B, and C, which will house the Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, Central Hall, committee rooms, and a press gallery.

The four-storey main complex will cover an area of 62,924 square feet. An allocation of Rs 662 crore has been earmarked for the main complex and Rs 339 crore for the administrative building.

The new Vidhan Bhavan will include a Legislative Assembly with a seating capacity of 400, a Legislative Council accommodating 120 members, and a Central Hall capable of hosting 700 individuals, as per government announcements.

The proposed Neral-Shirur Highway was a significant topic during the meeting. This highway will begin at Karjat-Neral in the Raigad district and connect to Shirur on the Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway.

This route is anticipated to greatly alleviate traffic congestion on the existing Mumbai-Pune Expressway and provide a more efficient transit corridor for vehicles coming from various regions within the state. The Chief Minister urged officials to accelerate the requisite approvals and funding for this initiative.

Furthermore, acknowledging the increasing demand for traffic management, the committee assessed technical details related to the Pune-Shirur project, which encompasses a six-lane elevated roadway and a four-lane ground-level road.
