These traffickers were captured in June 2018 at Zadeswar Chowkdi in Bharuch, Uttar Pradesh, with over 601 kg of ganja in their possession, as stated by the NCB.
The Special Court in Bharuch imposed the 15-year sentence on Pramod Kumar and Shishupal from Bulandshahar, UP; Manish Harish Bhai from Bharuch, Gujarat; and Kamal Lochan Shamal from Ganjam, Odisha.
Additionally, the court levied a fine of Rs one lakh on each of the four convicts, the statement noted.
Earlier this week, the NCB's Gorakhpur Zonal Unit celebrated a victory when a Special Court found two individuals guilty in a 2024 case and sentenced them to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, alongside fines of Rs one lakh each, under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
The Additional District and Session Judge in Sonbhadra convicted Sarvesh Singh (from Kanpur Dehat district) and Abhiraj Singh (from Gopalganj district, Bihar) for their roles in illicit drug trafficking.
The duo was caught while transporting contraband in their truck, as reported.
On July 19, 2024, the NCB, Gorakhpur Zonal Unit, intercepted a truck and confiscated 825 kilograms of ganja in Sonbhadra, the statement revealed.
In connection with this seizure, two suspects were arrested, and a case was filed for violating provisions under Section 8, 20, 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The agency urged the public to report any information related to narcotics via the MANAS Helpline (Toll-Free: 1933), assuring confidentiality for informants.
