Patna, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has successfully obtained a 10-year prison sentence for a truck driver and his aide in a Special NDPS Court located in Gaya for the possession of 1,419 Kg of poppy straw and 4.7 kg of opium, as stated by an official on Sunday.
Shrawan Kumar, the primary carrier, and Suraj Sharma, both from Kurukshetra, Haryana, were apprehended with the illegal substances on August 11, 2021, according to the official statement.
The ruling was delivered by the District and Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge (NDPS), 3rd Court, Gaya, on Saturday, as noted in the statement.
The court imposed a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence on both individuals, along with a fine of Rs 2 lakh each. Should they fail to pay the fine, they will face an additional two years of imprisonment.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Patna Zonal Unit, achieved this conviction under Sections 15(c) and 18(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The truck, registered as HR67A-2538, was intercepted at the Amas Toll Plaza in Gaya and subsequently seized at the Amas Police Station, according to the statement.
This conviction acts as a warning to those engaged in the illegal drug trade and showcases the NCB's steadfast commitment to combating narcotics-related offenses, the statement added.
In another incident, the NCB confiscated equipment from a Mephedrone (MD) manufacturing laboratory in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, intended for producing approximately 200 kg of MD for the illicit drug market, as per an official statement.
This operation, termed Operation Prayogshala, took place on January 29, in close collaboration with the Jodhpur Gramin Police, with three key suspects currently evading capture, the official noted.
During this operation, various laboratory and industrial items were seized, including borosilicate jars, glass tubes, an electric induction motor, an industrial electromagnetic stirrer, and other apparatus used in synthetic drug production, the statement revealed.
Earlier, on January 25, the NCB in Jodhpur confiscated 1.089 kg of Mephedrone after acting on credible intelligence. The NCB team intercepted two individuals on a motorcycle carrying a black bag with contraband, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects.
