Chhagan Bhujbal's Helicopter Accident: A Close Call in Pune
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Pune, April 11 (NationPress) A potentially disastrous aviation incident was narrowly averted on Saturday when a helicopter carrying the prominent Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Chhagan Bhujbal mistakenly landed in a parking lot instead of the appropriate helipad in Pune district. This unexpected situation caused significant alarm among security personnel and bystanders.
According to Bhujbal's office, the Minister is safe and there is no reason for concern.
Minister Bhujbal was en route from Nashik to Khanvadi in Purandar tehsil to participate in the event celebrating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. The event also saw the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, and various other ministers.
While a specific helipad had been arranged for the arrival of VVIPs, it appears that the pilot mistakenly identified an empty section of the parking area as the landing zone. The parking lot was mostly vacant at the time, which possibly contributed to the pilot's misjudgment. Nonetheless, the maneuver was highly perilous as the helicopter's rotating blades posed a serious risk to nearby structures and vehicles.
Thankfully, despite the significant navigational mistake, the helicopter landed without incident. Minister Bhujbal and all passengers aboard were reported to be unharmed. After the Minister exited, the helicopter was relocated to the correct helipad.
Chhagan Bhujbal's office has expressed serious concern regarding this oversight. Security agencies have initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain whether the incident stemmed from a technical issue or human error. “It is alarming that such a blunder took place. We await a comprehensive report from the aviation authorities concerning the pilot’s actions,” stated a security official.
In an exclusive interview with IANS post-incident, Minister Bhujbal reassured, “There is no need for worry.”
The occurrence has raised questions among supporters and the public, especially in light of a recent aviation incident involving NCP leader Ajit Pawar on January 28, where he tragically lost his life in a plane crash in Baramati.
Attention now turns to the administration regarding potential disciplinary measures against the pilot for this serious violation of safety protocols.
