Diu, Sep 11 (NationPress) - NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar engaged in meaningful discussions with fisherwomen regarding nutrition and conversed with other members of the fishing community during her four-day visit to Diu, as reported by an official source.
“I will partake in dialogues with the sisters of the fishing community, address the 'Nari Tu Narayani' women’s conference, and participate in a dialogue related to Nutrition Month,” she shared in a post on X, prior to the events scheduled at Vanakbara Jetty and Fishermen Shed, Ghoghla.
While in Diu, the NCW will conduct a three-day capacity-building initiative titled “Catalysts for Change: Gender Inclusive Governance Program” aimed at IAS and IPS officers from September 12 to 14.
Senior officers from twenty states are expected to join this program, as stated by the Commission.
This initiative underscores the NCW’s dedication to enhancing gender-inclusive governance by equipping senior officials with essential tools and sensitivity required for integrating women’s empowerment into governance frameworks, the statement detailed.
This marks the third edition of the program, having been previously held in Thiruvananthapuram and Goa.
According to an NCW announcement, Rahatkar is also slated to attend a program regarding “Poshan Mah” at Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Health and Wellness Centre, Gomtimala, Vanakbara, Diu) on Friday.
Earlier, the Chairperson expressed on X that the NCW consistently strives for the safety, sensitivity, and empowerment of women.
She mentioned various initiatives such as YASHODA AI, National Commission for Women at Your Doorstep, Campus Calling, 'Tere Mere Sapne', Digital Shakti, and She is a Changemaker that aim to foster awareness, protection, and leadership development at all levels.
In a separate post, Rahatkar highlighted the accomplishments of a young girl from Maharashtra in sports.
Fourteen-year-old Vasundhara Nangre, hailing from the small town of Kalamb in Yavatmal district, has made a name for herself in squash despite facing numerous challenges, as noted by the NCW Chairperson.
“She comes from a locality where the majority are engaged in agriculture or small-scale employment. Presently, she holds the title of India’s number-one squash player in the under-15 category. Although her schoolteacher father's limited income made joining an academy or commuting daily impractical, these hardships only fueled her determination,” Rahatkar remarked.
