Key Takeaways
Patna, March 3 (NationPress) Following the declaration of three NDA candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar, Sanjay Saraogi, the president of the state BJP, voiced his optimism that the alliance will triumph in all five seats.
The central BJP leadership revealed Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar Ram as its candidates on Tuesday.
Additionally, the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) appointed its national president, Upendra Kushwaha, as a candidate supported by the NDA.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, Saraogi emphasized that the NDA will participate collectively in the contest for all five seats.
“The BJP will compete for two seats, JD(U) will vie for two seats, and RLM will contend for one seat,” he articulated.
“Nitin Nabin will represent the BJP in the elections, while Shivesh Kumar, who ran in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Sasaram (SC) constituency, will serve as the NDA's fifth candidate,” Saraogi informed IANS.
He extended his congratulations to the BJP's central leadership for granting Nitin Nabin the opportunity to run in the Rajya Sabha elections from Bihar.
The Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) has yet to announce its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections.
In response to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's call for a parliamentary debate regarding the Israel–USA and Iran conflict, Saraogi remarked, “What Sonia Gandhi states is her perspective, but I trust that the decisions made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are beneficial for the country.”
The outgoing Rajya Sabha representatives from Bihar include Ramnath Thakur, Harivansh Narayan Singh, Upendra Kushwaha, Prem Chand Gupta, and Amarendra Dhari Singh.
According to the current composition of the Bihar Assembly, the NDA commands 202 MLAs, with 41 votes necessary to secure a Rajya Sabha seat.
To clinch all five seats, a total of 205 votes will be required, making the fifth seat particularly vital and potentially contentious.
The opposition Grand Alliance has 35 MLAs. Should it obtain support from five AIMIM MLAs and one Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA, it could be in a position to win one seat.
As the nomination process progresses, political maneuvering in Bihar is anticipated to escalate in the forthcoming days as alliances finalize their strategies.
