New Delhi, Aug 7 (NationPress) The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has given its unanimous endorsement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President J.P. Nadda to determine the coalition's candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election, set for September 9.
This pivotal decision was made during a gathering of NDA parliamentary party floor leaders, overseen by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by prominent figures, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Nadda, who also serves as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha.
After the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju shared with reporters: "At the meeting chaired by Rajnath Singh ji, all senior NDA leaders, including Amit Shah and J.P. Nadda ji, were present. It was unanimously decided that the Prime Minister and J.P. Nadda ji will select the NDA's candidate for Vice President. Their decision will be accepted by all NDA members."
The Election Commission of India has already released the notification for the Vice Presidential election. The nomination process commenced on Thursday, with the final date for submissions set for August 21. Polling and vote counting will take place on September 9.
The NDA, holding a majority in the electoral college comprising members from both Houses of Parliament, is anticipated to play a significant role in determining the election's outcome.
This vacancy arose following Jagdeep Dhankhar's unexpected resignation on July 21, citing health concerns.
In his resignation letter, Dhankhar stated: "To prioritize health care and adhere to medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately."
Dhankhar's resignation coincided with the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Numerous NDA alliance leaders, including those from JD-U, Shiv Sena, Apna Dal, and others, have already pledged their unconditional support to the BJP for the upcoming Vice Presidential election.
