The NDA has put forward Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as its candidate, while the INDIA Bloc has nominated former Supreme Court Justice B. Sudershan Reddy.
BJP MPs are faced with a packed agenda leading up to the election day. Between Saturday and Monday, they will engage in two workshops and two dinner meetings.
On Sunday, the MPs will attend a full-day workshop at the GMC Balayogi auditorium in Parliament, which will be followed by another three-hour workshop on Monday.
That evening, NDA MPs will gather with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a dinner meeting.
The Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for the following day, September 9.
In terms of the numbers, NDA's Radhakrishnan holds a significant advantage over the INDIA Bloc's candidate, Justice Sudarshan Reddy.
The Lok Sabha consists of 543 MPs, while the Rajya Sabha has 233 MPs out of a total of 245. The BJP commands 240 MPs in the Lower House and 102 in the Upper House, and with the backing of its allies, the NDA's total strength reaches 421-298 and 128 in both Houses.
Conversely, the INDIA Bloc parties collectively have 235 Lok Sabha MPs and 77 Rajya Sabha MPs, which sums up to 312. Should the AAP lend its support with 11 MPs, their total would escalate to 325.
Among other independent parties, the YSRCP has declared its support for the NDA candidate, bringing their MP tally to 433 in favor of Radhakrishnan, thereby providing him with a decisive edge over the INDIA Bloc's nominee.
In the meantime, the BJP has reached out to opposition parties in Tamil Nadu, urging them to rectify their previous oversight by uniting behind Radhakrishnan, contrasting with their earlier stance during Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's second-term nomination where they failed to support him.
