On January 17, in Patna, Prashant Kishor, the convenor of Jan Suraaj, had a meeting with Patna's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kartikeya Sharma, at his office situated near Gandhi Maidan. This meeting was prompted by the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant from Jehanabad.

Accompanying him were the victim's family members, including his father, maternal uncle, aunt, paternal uncle, and brother.

The discussion focused on urging the police to adopt a compassionate approach towards those who were named in FIRs for protesting against the incident, aiming to prevent unnecessary legal repercussions while considering the case's legal aspects.

After the meeting, Kishor addressed the media, sharing that he had visited the victim's family at their home in Jehanabad the previous day. Following this visit, the government acknowledged the situation and established a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

“With the SIT now in place, we anticipate a thorough investigation and justice for the aggrieved parties,” Kishor expressed.

He highlighted that the victim's family feels the investigating officer—who is a female police officer—has demonstrated bias and are advocating for departmental action against her.

“Recently, the victim's family and several young students protested at Kargil Chowk regarding this matter, leading to FIRs against them. Police also conducted raids at BN College in connection with these protests. We brought this matter to the SSP's attention as well,” he added.

Kishor further stated that since the government has recognized errors and formed an SIT, it would be unjust to penalize those who protested for justice.

“The SSP assured us that both issues will be reviewed, and the police will strive to take a compassionate approach whenever feasible. He guaranteed that no severe actions would be taken against those named in the FIRs,” he noted.

Expressing confidence in the investigative process, Kishor said, “The SIT has been established under an Inspector General's leadership. Let the investigation unfold independently. We have presented all concerns raised by the victim's family to the authorities. The SIT's purpose is to reach unbiased conclusions.”

Regarding Patna Police's earlier statement dismissing sexual assault allegations, Kishor remarked that if there had not been significant administrative oversights, such widespread outrage would not have occurred.

“If the perpetrators are not held accountable and the family remains dissatisfied, further actions will be initiated. Our primary goal is to secure justice for the victim's family,” he emphasized.

Several prominent leaders, including Kishor Kumar Munna, Subhash Kumar Kushwaha, Rambali Chandravanshi, JP Singh, Manish Kashyap, Sarwar Ali, among others, participated in the meeting.
