Chennai, Aug 31 (NationPress) Senior IPS officer G. Venkataraman has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (Law and Order) for Tamil Nadu, following the retirement of two prominent police officials on Sunday.
Shankar Jiwal, the former DGP (Law and Order), along with Shailesh Kumar Yadav, the DGP of the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation, both concluded their service.
A formal farewell event took place at Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore, Chennai, on Saturday to honor their contributions.
Senior police officers and officials were present to recognize the impact that the retiring officers had on the state’s policing framework.
While Shankar Jiwal has stepped down from his previous role, the state government has assigned him a new position.
He will serve as the first Chairman of the newly established Fire Commission, with plans to assume office at the Fire and Rescue Services Department headquarters in Egmore on Monday. This strategic move allows the retired officer's expertise to be utilized in a different capacity.
Meanwhile, Venkataraman, previously serving as the Administrative DGP of the Tamil Nadu Police, has been appointed as the new DGP responsible for law and order.
On Sunday at 4 p.m., a brief ceremony was conducted at the DGP’s office where he officially took charge.
Reports suggest that Shankar Jiwal personally transferred responsibilities to his successor, facilitating a seamless transition.
In another significant shift, Vineet Dev Vankadey, formerly the Headquarters DGP, has been designated as the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation. This reshuffle highlights the government’s strategy to leverage the skills and leadership of experienced IPS officers in pivotal administrative roles.
These developments are occurring at a critical moment, as the state government focuses on enhancing efficiency, law enforcement preparedness, and improving police infrastructure.
With Venkataraman now leading law and order, there are high expectations for a sustained commitment to maintaining peace and fortifying the policing structure throughout Tamil Nadu.
