New Delhi, June 3 (NationPress) In an effort to promote excellence in corporate governance and sustainable development in the northeast, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) announced on Tuesday the establishment of its inaugural regional campus in the area.
The IICA, operating under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has officially acquired a five-acre plot in New Shillong Township, Meghalaya, for this landmark campus.
With a substantial investment of Rs 100.95 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North-East (PM-DevINE), the Shillong campus is poised to become a regional center for specialized training, research, and policy advisory across crucial sectors.
Donald Phillips Wahlang, Chief Secretary of the Meghalaya government, reaffirmed the state’s dedication to knowledge-driven growth and emphasized the strategic placement of the IICA campus within the Knowledge City cluster.
This area is already home to prestigious institutions such as IIM Shillong, National Law University Meghalaya, and NIFT, fostering significant academic and professional collaboration.
He also announced the upcoming development of a new airport in Shillong, which will greatly improve regional connectivity and facilitate access to the campus for professionals, faculty, and students from all over India.
This infrastructural enhancement is expected to further solidify Shillong's emerging identity as a key academic and policy hub in the northeast, according to a statement from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, DG and CEO of IICA, hailed this moment as historic, referring to the Shillong campus as “our first baby outside Delhi — a symbol of decentralization and empowerment.”
He highlighted the campus's role in fostering entrepreneurship, capacity building, and good governance, aligning with national priorities like ease of doing business, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the vision for Vikshit Bharat by 2047.
Referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision during the Rising Northeast initiatives, Singh noted the Prime Minister's consistent advocacy for the northeast as the “Ashtalakshmi of India” — a region abundant in diversity, talent, and potential.
In line with this vision, he stated, “IICA is proud to contribute to the region's transformation from a distant periphery to a vibrant growth hub of New India.”
Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, remarked that this partnership embodies the spirit of cooperative federalism and the Centre’s vision of empowering the northeast as a growth engine.
