Amaravati, Feb 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, announced on Wednesday that the NDA administration has appointed new Vice-Chancellors at universities based solely on merit.
The state has designated Vice-Chancellors for nine universities. The Chief Minister expressed his thoughts on these appointments via ‘X’.
"This day signifies a new beginning for higher education in Andhra Pradesh. Vice-Chancellors will now be selected solely on merit, adhering to established protocols. Higher education is vital for nurturing future citizens, but the previous government allowed political interference and lobbying to compromise this vital process," he stated.
"The merit-based selection process initiated by our NDA government guarantees that qualified individuals are appointed to promote the pursuit of knowledge. This system is already yielding positive outcomes while fostering social equity," he added.
Naidu highlighted a significant achievement: for the first time, a woman from the tribal community, Prof. Prasanna Sree, has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Prasanna Sree, previously an English Professor at Andhra University, will now serve as the Vice-Chancellor of Adikavi Nannayya University in Rajahmundry. "This is a momentous achievement for both education and social justice. I extend my congratulations to all the newly appointed Vice-Chancellors and wish them a fruitful tenure in enhancing education and knowledge," he remarked.
On Tuesday, Governor Justice Abdul Nazeer issued orders for the appointments of new Vice-Chancellors at key universities across the state.
G.P. Rajasekhar, from IIT Kharagpur, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University. C.S.R.K. Prasad, previously from NIT, Warangal, will lead JNTU, Kakinada. P. Prakash Babu, hailing from Hyderabad Central University, will take charge as Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University in Kadapa.
The Governor also appointed Venkata Basava Rao of Osmania University as the VC of Rayalaseema University in Kurnool. H. Sudarshna Rao, currently overseeing JNTU, Anantapur, will continue as its head. Uma will lead Padmavathi Women’s University in Tirupati. K. Ramji from AU Engineering College is the new VC of Krishna University in Machilipatnam. Allam Srinivasa Rao, a Professor at Delhi University, will take charge of Vikram Simhapuri University.
