Guwahati, April 1 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), which serves the northeastern states along with seven districts in West Bengal and five districts in northern Bihar, has successfully completed and commissioned 1,141.388 Route Kilometers (RKM) of electrification during the financial year 2024-25. This achievement marks the highest level of electrification accomplished within a single fiscal year.
Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma announced that the NFR also finalized and commissioned 1,502.743 Track Kilometers (TKM) of electrification in the recently concluded financial year (2024-25).
Sharma highlighted that NFR has reached unprecedented milestones in the fiscal year 2024-25, establishing new records in electrification, freight loading, punctuality, and infrastructure development.
This important achievement of the highest-ever electrification in a single fiscal year signifies a significant advancement in modernizing railway operations and enhancing efficiency.
According to the CPRO, in freight operations, NFR experienced a 4.21 percent growth in freight loading, rising from 10.24 million tonnes (MT) in 2023-24 to 10.67 MT in 2024-25.
Freight earnings saw a steady increase of 8.19 percent year-over-year, climbing to Rs 1,299.643 crore in 2024-25 from Rs 1,201.224 crore in the prior year.
The railway also achieved its best-ever loading of Petroleum, Oil & Lubricants (POL), dispatching 1,380 rakes in 2024-25.
Additionally, NFR made impressive strides in train punctuality, ranking 7th among all zonal railways with an on-time performance of 80.68 percent during 2024-25.
To improve passenger convenience, NFR introduced eight new train services, extended four pairs of mail/express trains, and increased the frequency of four trains.
To cater to the rising passenger demand, 40 additional coaches were permanently added to 16 trains.
Special train services also saw an increase, with 1,430 trips operated in 2024-25, up from 1,361 trips in 2023-24, ensuring enhanced accessibility for passengers.
Sharma noted that in a significant improvement to regional logistics, the first-ever freight consignment of BCN wagons reached the Nischintapur terminal in Agartala, Tripura, facilitating smoother goods movement.
Moreover, Meghalaya received its first freight-laden train at Mendipathar station on February 4, 2025, further fostering economic development and connectivity in the area.
With these outstanding accomplishments in electrification, freight and passenger services, punctuality, and infrastructure development, the NFR is continually setting new standards in Indian Railways, significantly contributing to the region's economic and transportation advancement.
