New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended another suspect in connection with the 2022 Bhupatinagar bomb blast in Bengal, which resulted in three fatalities.
The individual has been identified as Pachanan Ghorai, a resident of Bhupatinagar Nagar in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, according to a statement released by the central investigative body on Sunday.
A non-bailable warrant was issued for the suspect, leading to his arrest by the NIA on Friday.
In this high-intensity explosion, the homeowner Raj Kumar Manna was killed instantly, while Buddhadeb Manna (also known as Lalu) and Biswajit Gayen sustained severe injuries and later died from their wounds.
The NIA's investigation uncovered that the incident stemmed from a criminal conspiracy involving the distribution of explosives intended for bomb-making to instill fear and violence in the area.
According to sources, the chargesheet filed by the NIA indicated that explosives were intentionally stockpiled in the locality to foment terror. The agency also claimed that these explosive materials were stored for the production of crude bombs.
On January 4, the NIA submitted a chargesheet to a special court regarding the case.
It is worth noting that in April of this year, NIA officials and personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were confronted by local Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters while returning to Kolkata after detaining two local TMC figures, Manobrata Jana and Balai Charan Maity.
The windshield of the NIA vehicle was shattered during this incident, and one officer sustained injuries.
On December 13 of last year, a raid was conducted by the NIA at the residence of the TMC leader.
Following the blast in December 2022, the West Bengal Police initiated an investigation, which was subsequently transferred to the NIA by an order from the Calcutta High Court.
The inquiry is currently ongoing.
