West Bengal: NIA Conducts Searches at Trinamool Leader's Home in Relation to 2022 Bhupatinagar Blast Incident

Kolkata, Dec 13 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed a search warrant on Friday at the residence of a Trinamool Congress leader located in East Midnapore, as part of their ongoing inquiry into the Bhupatinagar blast case from December 2022, which tragically claimed three lives.

The NIA also targeted the home of Manab Kumar Parua, the executive officer responsible for public works with the East Midnapore Zilla Parishad, who has already been mentioned in the chargesheet submitted by the NIA concerning the Bhupatinagar blast case in July this year.

According to reports, the NIA officials interrogated Parua for several hours and confiscated various paper documents from his residence. Nevertheless, the officials did not engage with the media present outside Parua’s home.

Parua himself confirmed the NIA's raid, stating that it was part of the investigation into the Bhupatinagar blast case. He said, “I am extending full cooperation with the central agency officials in the investigation process and have assured them of total cooperation in the matter in future as well.”

Earlier in April, NIA agents and Central Armed Police Personnel (CAPF) faced aggression from local Trinamool Congress supporters while they were returning to Kolkata after arresting two local leaders, Manobrata Jana and Balai Charan Maity.

During this incident, the windscreen of the NIA vehicle was smashed, and one officer sustained injuries due to the attack by the ruling party activists.

Initially, the investigation into the blast that occurred in December 2022 was conducted by the West Bengal police. However, following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, the case was later transferred to the NIA.

The central agency officially took over the investigation on June 4, 2023.
