Kolkata, Dec 4 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended another worker of the Trinamool Congress linked to the homicide of BJP leader Vijay Krishna Bhuiyan in Moyna, located in the East Midnapore district, as per reports on Thursday.
The individual arrested has been named Buddhadeb Mondal.
As per insider information, the NIA executed searches across various sites on Wednesday to locate this Trinamool worker. Following a confidential tip-off, investigators discovered that Buddhadeb had been hiding at a relative’s residence in Pingla, West Midnapore district.
Upon receiving this intel, NIA officials raided the location, leading to Buddhadeb's arrest. He was transported to Kolkata on Thursday morning for further interrogation.
It is noteworthy that on the evening of May 1, 2023, Booth President Vijay Krishna was reportedly kidnapped, as indicated in a police complaint filed by his wife, Lakshmi Bhuiyan. Based on her statement, local law enforcement initiated an investigation and launched a search operation.
Eventually, Vijay's remains, showing signs of violence and in a gruesome state, were discovered in a pond near his residence. Numerous Trinamool leaders and activists were suspected of being complicit in the crime. A formal complaint was submitted against at least 34 individuals at the Moyna police station.
Initially, eight individuals were detained, of which five secured bail. Dissatisfied with the investigation's pace, the BJP sought judicial intervention, accusing the police of negligence.
Consequently, the Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation to the NIA.
During the preliminary investigation, the central agency undertook incident reconstructions and extensive raids. Nearly 150 NIA personnel, organized into 14 teams, scoured the residences of all suspects.
Buddhadeb was named among the suspects, most of whom had gone into hiding at that time. The NIA subsequently sealed the homes of the accused and issued notices.
Previously, the NIA had apprehended several Trinamool leaders and workers, including Amitabha alias Babu Bhanja, former vice-president of the Moyna Block Trinamool Congress, and Sujit Kar, former vice-president of the Bakcha region Trinamool unit.
Another Trinamool worker, Nabakumar Mandal, was arrested later from the Bakcha Goramahal region.
