New Delhi, Sep 11 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has uncovered three hand grenades and a pistol linked to the Amritsar temple grenade attack case, revealing a transnational terror conspiracy tied to a significant arms and explosives syndicate, the agency reported on Thursday.
Information provided by the accused, Sharanjeet Kumar, also known as Sunny, led the NIA to the recovery of the grenades from Village Bhamri, Batala, Punjab.
“The NIA also seized a .30 bore pistol that was supplied to Sharanjeet by his foreign handlers as part of a conspiracy orchestrated by terrorist organizations aiming to disrupt the peace and harmony in Punjab,” the NIA stated in their press release.
The explosives and firearms have been forwarded for forensic and technical analysis.
Sharanjit, who was apprehended by the NIA in Gaya, Bihar last Friday, was found to have a significant role in the conspiracy concerning the grenade attack on the Thakurdwara Sanatan temple in Amritsar, executed by motorcycle-borne assailants Gursidak Singh and Vishal Gill.
The attack was reportedly directed by foreign handlers, according to the NIA's investigation into the March 2025 incident. Sharanjit’s interrogation led the NIA to a precise location in Batala, Gurdaspur, where the grenades were hidden.
“The accused identified the grenades as part of four he received on March 1, 2025. He had given one grenade to the assailants just two days prior to the March 15 attack,” investigators noted.
Current NIA investigations have unveiled a conspiracy involving terrorist handlers based in Europe, USA, and Canada behind this attack.
The handlers were actively supplying terror hardware, funding, logistical support, and target information to their operatives in India to instigate terror in Punjab and other regions of the country.
The agency confirmed that investigations into this matter are ongoing.
