New Delhi, May 25 (NationPress) Nine Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in India were apprehended in Wazirpur JJ Colony, according to the Delhi Police on Sunday.
The arrested individuals lacked valid travel documents, visas, or permits, thereby breaching the Foreigners Act of 1946 and other immigration regulations by unlawfully entering India via the Cooch Behar border, an official from Delhi Police's Foreigners Cell in the North-West District reported.
During the arrest, police confiscated a smartphone containing the prohibited In My Opinion (IMO) application. All detainees have been referred to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in R.K. Puram, New Delhi, for deportation proceedings, stated the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West District), Bhisham Singh, noted that among those captured were four minors, all originating from Kurigram District in Bangladesh.
The remaining five individuals were identified as: Saidul Islam (45), Nazma Begum (42), Nazmul Ali (23), Azina Begum (20), and Apple Ali (19).
Acting on a tip-off received on May 23, a police team secured the area and executed a thorough verification operation. "Approximately 50 footpaths and 100 lanes were meticulously searched during an extensive combing operation conducted within the jurisdiction of the Bharat Nagar police station," a police official disclosed.
The team responsible for identifying the illegal residents included SI Shyam Bir, ASI Rajender, HC Vikram, HC Praveen, and Ct. Deepak, working under the close oversight of Inspector Vipin Kumar (Foreigners Cell) and Ranjeev Kumar, ACP/CAW Cell.
While discussing the investigative challenges, DCP Bhisham Singh mentioned that during interrogations, the suspects attempted to mislead officers by claiming Indian citizenship.
The family head from Bangladesh informed police that they had previously been employed at a brick manufacturing facility in Mewat, Haryana.
Out of fear of being apprehended by the Haryana Police, they fled Mewat and were frequently changing locations, aiming to secure rented housing to blend into the local community, police reported.
