Janata Dal (United) leader Nishant Kumar is set to launch his maiden statewide political tour, the 'Sadbhav Yatra', beginning Sunday, 4 May, drawing vocal backing from senior leaders across party lines in Bihar. The yatra, which commenced its first phase from the historic Champaran region, is widely seen as a significant step in Nishant's emergence as a public political figure.

Bihar Deputy CM Voices Unconditional Support

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary was among the first to publicly endorse the initiative. "He has the full support of the party, and all party members are enthusiastic. There is confidence that Nishant's journey will definitely be successful. People involved in the party are excited, and there is also awareness among the general public. Everyone wants Nishant to become more and more active," Chaudhary said.

The remarks signal the JD(U)'s intent to consolidate organisational strength through Nishant's growing public profile, even as he currently holds no formal party position. Notably, his active grassroots involvement has reportedly infused the organisation with renewed energy ahead of future electoral cycles.

BJP Leaders Extend Cross-Party Goodwill

Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the JD(U)'s key alliance partner, also reacted positively. BJP Bihar State President Sanjay Saraogi drew a direct parallel with the elder Kumar's political legacy, saying, "This is a good thing. He is young and talented. The former CM, Nitish Kumar, used to start his journey from Champaran. He is following in his footsteps. Nishant Kumar has also started his journey from Champaran. I extend my best wishes to him."

Senior BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav added, "Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Nishant has taken charge and is determined to strengthen the party. He has begun a campaign from the land of Champaran to reinforce the organisation. I believe this will further strengthen the party, attract more youth, and help it move forward with greater momentum..."

What the Sadbhav Yatra Entails

JD(U) Bihar State President Umesh Singh Kushwaha announced that the yatra will cover all districts of the state in a phased manner. The first phase is scheduled for 3–4 May, covering Bagaha and Bettiah in the Champaran belt.

During the tour, Nishant Kumar will convey the message of development, good governance, and social harmony achieved under Nitish Kumar's leadership. He will directly interact with party workers at every level — from district units to Panchayats — in a grassroots-style engagement that Kushwaha described as generating "significant enthusiasm among leaders, workers, and the general public."

Senior JD(U) leaders including Shravan Kumar, along with other party members and local MLAs, are expected to accompany the tour.

The Nitish Kumar Connection

Nishant Kumar is the son of former Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) National President Nitish Kumar. His decision to launch the yatra from Champaran — the same region from which his father historically began his own political journeys — is being read as a deliberate symbolic choice, reinforcing continuity with the Nitish Kumar brand of governance and outreach.

This is the first time Nishant has undertaken such a large-scale public mobilisation effort, marking a clear escalation in his political visibility within the party structure.
