Greater Noida, July 8 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari participated in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ initiative by planting a tree, which serves as a touching homage to mothers and represents India’s ongoing dedication to environmental conservation.
The event occurred along a 31-kilometre highway connecting Haryana’s Faridabad to Noida International Airport, showcasing the integration of infrastructure growth with eco-friendly projects.
Gadkari appealed to all Indians to plant a tree in honor of their mother, merging personal tribute with ecological duty. He emphasized the government's accomplishments, stating that over 60,000 kilometres of new highways have been built in the last 11 years, with careful attention to greenery along these paths.
He elaborated on the practice of transplanting trees instead of cutting them down, carefully relocating them to new areas to safeguard the environment.
Accompanying Gadkari were Union Minister of State for Road Transport Ajay Tamta, Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, and Noida MP Mahesh Sharma, who also participated in planting trees in tribute to their mothers.
In an interview with IANS, Tamta remarked, "Under PM Modi's leadership, this campaign has gained momentum nationwide. We've planted numerous trees to further this vision."
Malhotra mentioned, "In 11 years, we’ve constructed 60,000 kilometres of highways. Our focus is on transplanting rather than cutting down, successfully relocating over 100,000 trees to maintain ecological balance."
Sharma noted, “This is a commendable initiative that not only pays tribute to mothers but also enhances the green surroundings of the airport, improving the region's ecological footprint.”
The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, at Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi, where he planted a Peepal tree. The campaign connects environmental responsibility with a tribute to motherhood, highlighting trees as vital life-givers, akin to mothers—providing nourishment, shelter, and hope for future generations.
This initiative invites citizens throughout India to plant trees as living memorials to their mothers, promoting environmental consciousness while cultivating personal relationships with nature. As India advances its infrastructure, this campaign guarantees that development and greenery progress together towards a sustainable future.
