Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) The political dynamics in New Delhi and Bihar experienced a notable shift on Friday as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took his oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha. This development ignited a spectrum of responses from political leaders, with NDA allies expressing support while opposition factions voiced strong criticisms.
Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha applauded Nitish Kumar's induction into the Rajya Sabha, emphasizing the progress Bihar has seen under his governance. He stated, "He (Nitish Kumar) has been our leader in the NDA; his guidance has propelled Bihar forward. Today, every NDA worker takes pride in this achievement."
Union Minister Giriraj Singh celebrated Kumar's ascension to the Upper House as a significant milestone. He expressed, "What could be a more joyous moment than this?" highlighting Kumar's sustained importance in national politics.
Singh also contrasted Kumar's two-decade tenure with past administrations, declaring it will be "etched in golden letters" for fostering societal harmony and development.
In stark opposition, Singh criticized the 15 years under former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, branding it a time of "jungle raj" rife with crime and disorder.
Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) Chief Upendra Kushwaha offered his congratulations, expressing hope for Kumar's new responsibilities. "He (Nitish Kumar) has my sincere congratulations as he embarks on this new chapter in the Rajya Sabha. He will continue to serve Bihar and the nation from this platform," Kushwaha remarked.
Conversely, leaders from the opposition INDIA bloc raised concerns regarding the implications of Kumar's Rajya Sabha appointment. Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leader and Bihar's Leader of the Opposition (LoP), launched a fierce critique, claiming Kumar's transition to the Upper House was coerced. "So what if he has taken an oath? Has he become the Prime Minister? This is merely a formality; he is doing it under pressure, against his will," Yadav asserted.
He further alleged that signs of this pressure were evident in Kumar's recent public appearances, stating, "Just observe the video footage; there's a palpable pressure when the Bihar Chief Minister speaks. The line is cut, and sessions in the Assembly are abruptly adjourned."
Congress leader Husain Dalwai questioned the political ramifications for Bihar, insinuating that the Bharatiya Janata Party had effectively marginalized Kumar. "We congratulate him, but what lies ahead for Bihar? This indicates the BJP's success in sidelining him, which poses a significant concern for the state's future," Dalwai noted.
Similarly, NCP-SP leader Fauzia Khan congratulated Kumar but expressed deeper worries about the state of democracy. "If prominent Chief Ministers begin functioning merely as election instruments for the government, what does this mean for our country? This scenario is evident everywhere; those who resist face consequences," she remarked, labeling it an "undeclared democracy."
