Jammu, Dec 1 (NationPress) The Jammu division of the Northern Railway has generated Rs 57 lakh from ticket checking activities in November this year, according to railway officials on Monday.
The Jammu Division of Northern Railway highlighted that the ticket checking personnel are executing special ticket checking operations monthly at various stations and on trains. These initiatives aim to combat ticketless and unauthorized travel, thereby ensuring comfortable journeys and enhanced services for all legitimate rail passengers.
“These operations occur at multiple railway stations, such as Jammu, Katra, Pathankot Cantt, Pathankot City, and Srinagar. During the ticket checking campaign in November 2025, the divisional checking team and Chief Ticket Inspectors caught 9,346 passengers for irregular travel, leading to a fine collection of around Rs 57 lakh,” an official mentioned.
The official also stated that division officials regularly conduct surprise ticket-checking operations to prevent unauthorized passenger entry onto trains and stations, ensuring that all travelers possess valid tickets.
“Regular checks are performed to maintain cleanliness across all railway stations in the division and to discourage public littering,” he added.
During this checking operation in November 2025, approximately Rs 17,000 in fines were levied on 53 passengers for littering within the station premises.
As for the monthly ticket-checking initiative in the division, he indicated that these drives will persist in combating ticketless and irregular travel.
“Such initiatives will enhance railway revenue. This campaign aims to ensure transparency in the ticketing system while offering convenience to passengers,” he stated.
The official noted that railway authorities plan to initiate direct train services from Jammu railway station to the Valley by the end of 2025.
Currently, the Vande Bharat train service operates between Katra town in Jammu division's Reasi district to the Valley.
