New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) The state-owned energy leader NTPC and EDF India, a branch of France's Electricite de France, have formed a strategic alliance to develop pumped hydro storage and hydro projects integrated with renewable energy efforts while also investigating avenues in the distribution sector.

According to a joint announcement from both entities, NTPC and EDF India have executed a non-binding term sheet to collaboratively develop, own, operate, and maintain pumped storage initiatives and additional hydro-power projects.

The agreement was formalized by Federico D’Amico, CEO of EDF India, and JC Kakoti, General Manager of Hydro Engineering at NTPC. Among the attendees were Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC, and Luc Remont, Chairman and CEO of EDF France. Pankaj Agarwal, Power Secretary, along with other senior officials from the ministry, were also present.

Signed on February 23, the agreement indicates that NTPC and EDF plan to establish a Joint Venture Company (JVC) with a 50:50 equity structure, pending approval from the Government of India.

This new joint venture will execute projects independently or may form additional joint ventures and subsidiaries to pursue initiatives within India and its neighboring regions, as stated in the announcement.

EDF India is a subsidiary of Électricité de France SA, a French multinational electric utility company owned by the French government.

The agreement was finalized during the global ELECRAMA 2025 summit taking place in Greater Noida, near Delhi.

During the summit, Chairman Gurdeep Singh reiterated NTPC's dedication to improving energy efficiency, increasing renewable capacity, and integrating AI-powered power management systems.

He remarked, "ELECRAMA 2025 showcases the rapid transformation of India’s power sector. The diverse range of innovative products and machinery presented underscores the success of the 'Make in India' initiative.”

“With a robust manufacturing framework and growing global engagement, India is poised to address its domestic energy requirements and become a significant exporter of premium power equipment. NTPC is committed to facilitating this change by enhancing thermal efficiency, expanding renewable energy capabilities, and utilizing avant-garde technology,” he concluded.

Furthermore, ELECRAMA 2025 also marked the official launch of the World Utility Summit (WUS), a prominent forum aimed at fostering strategic discussions on energy transition, decarbonization methods, AI-led power management, and the future landscape of utilities.
