Bhubaneswar, Oct 24 (NationPress) The preparations for the by-election in the vacant Nuapada Assembly constituency in Odisha are in full swing, following the closure of nomination withdrawals on Friday.
As per an official announcement: “Candidates were allowed to withdraw their nominations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nonetheless, no candidate chose to withdraw their nomination papers. Thus, 14 candidates will compete in the Nuapada Assembly By-Election.”
The candidates include Jay Dholakia from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Snehangini Chhuria from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Ghasiram Majhi from the Indian National Congress (INC), Ramakanta Hati from the Samajwadi Party, Hemant Tandi from the Bahujan Mukti Party, and Shukadhar Dandsena from the Odisha Janata Dal.
In addition, there are eight independent candidates - Ashraya Mahandan, Er. Chakranta Jena, Bhuvan Lal Sahu, Kishore Kumar Bag, Nita Bag, Lakshmikant Tandi, Bhaktabandhu Dharua, and Lochan Majhi - also competing in this electoral battle.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha also reported that five nomination papers were rejected during the scrutiny phase.
The rejected candidates are Rajaram Sahu from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Sitaram Behera from the Rastriya Paribartan Dal, and three independent contenders: Kamal Kumar Chhatria, Purushottam Behera, and Bhujabal Adabangu.
Even with 14 candidates in the race, the main focus remains on the fierce competition among the BJP, BJD, and Congress. The political atmosphere in Nuapada is heating up as senior party leaders embark on their campaign efforts ahead of the bypoll.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has embarked on a two-day visit to Nuapada district to rally support for BJP candidate Dholakia.
This by-election is pivotal, marking the first since the BJP took the reins of the state government. Conversely, the CPI-M has declared its support for Congress candidates in this electoral contest.
