Bengaluru, July 25 (NationPress) – The Special Court dealing with MP/MLA cases in Bengaluru has denied the bail request made by former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna in relation to the alleged sexual assault of a domestic worker. This marks the second occasion that Prajwal has sought bail from the court.
Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, submitted a new bail application, asserting that there were changes in circumstances since his previous request was denied last year.
Despite this, the court dismissed his petition without hesitation. Vikram Huilgol, Prajwal's attorney, argued that his client has been in custody for 14 months and noted that another defendant in this case, H.D. Revanna—Prajwal's father and a JD(S) MLA—had secured a stay order from the High Court. He contended that this precedent should allow for Prajwal's bail as well.
On the other hand, the attorneys representing the Special Investigation Team (SIT) opposed the bail request and urged the court to deny it. After considering both arguments, the court ruled against the bail application.
Previously, on July 9, the Karnataka High Court instructed Prajwal Revanna, who is the main suspect in the obscene video case, to submit a second bail petition to the trial court, mandating that the lower court resolve the issue within 10 days.
Senior Advocate Prabhuling Navadgi, representing Prajwal, contended that the High Court had the power and discretion to directly address the bail petition rather than referring it to the trial court. However, the bench insisted he first seek resolution from the trial court.
In response to this directive, Prajwal Revanna filed a new bail application with the trial court, citing altered circumstances since the prior rejection.
Currently, Prajwal Revanna remains incarcerated at Bengaluru Central Prison, facing a total of four rape charges against him.
